Letter: to Father Juan de Ugarte /by Juan María Salvatierra, 1697 Apr 30.

Spain had given the Jesuits permission to establish missions in California, but the fathers had to raise their own funds. In this letter, Father Salvatierra, president of the California Missions, says that he will deliver 427 pesos in person. Salvatierra hopes to add to the fund thereby, helping to defray the cost of building the Loreto Mission.
